Need ideas for that special gift? Let me help
Gifts. Sometimes I see something and it’s the perfect gift. I can’t wait to give it and see their reaction. But more often that not, I have no idea. Add that problem to the holiday or birthday season (the first week of May we have 7 birthdays!) is coming up and buying multiple gifts is (mostly) on my shoulders.
I usually don’t have a problem thinking of a gift for my mom or sisters because their tastes are similar to mine. So anything I love they will probably love too. But when you add in the kids, husband, nieces and nephews - and if you don’t see them very often you have no clue what they’re in to or what they have – it’s a headache.
As much as I love shopping, when I’m in crunch mode and have so many other things on my plate, I prefer online shopping. Pick it out, have it shipped and add my personal touch with wrapping or gift bags. The exception is Christmas. I pick two coordinating papers and they get wrapped and that's that. The gifts look nice under the tree, but the 15 seconds to unwrap them doesn't warrant anything more in my mind!
For baby and wedding showers, registries have made it easier to pick out something they want and is easy to do online as well. Depending on the recipient and the occasion, I like to pick out a great basket at HomeGoods that can be used for storage and then add in multiple items that are usually favorites of mine. For weddings, a deep basket (that can be later used as a hamper or place to store throws) can be filled with a soft throw, a bottle of wine, candle and maybe a fun game that the newlyweds can play together. Or find a tray, add in some wine glasses and a bottle of wine. For a baby shower, find a small basket that can be repurposed to stash toys, or to keep diapers and wipes on the main floor to limit runs to the baby’s room. Fill it with some essentials like spit up towels, a soft blanket, Aquaphor, and a toy. For any occasion, wrap it up in cellophane and a big ribbon. You’ve got a great looking present and it’s fun because it’s multiple presents in one.
Sometimes you happen across an online shop that has unique gift ideas and you can do most of your shopping there. A recent find is HeartString Gifts. HeartString Gifts is an online store that’s quirky, fun and unique. I touched base with them and asked them to describe their shop. This is what they said - “Our focus is on the idea of giving which is why all of our products are boxed and shipped in an adorable gift-worthy way. The thing that really makes us special is our mission to spread joy and make a difference. When people buy from HeartString Gifts, their gift doesn’t end with the recipient... 50% of all profits made go to Children’s Cancer Research Fund, extending their gift to thousands of others.” How great is that? Unique gifts that will be special for the recipient plus the knowledge that your purchase is going to someone going through an extremely hard time. Please check them out. I’ve also included some of their items in my gift guides too.
To help you out, one of my website pages is focused on gift guides. While putting them together, I got to be completely selfish and look for things I like when I created the For Her gift guide. Some of these things I also own so I can vouch for them. I also have a For Him gift guide and put in some products my husband loves (he gave me the thumbs up on my picks). The Graduation/Teen/College guide is for the older teen or for those that will have their first “home” away from home. Finally, kids. This is maybe one of the hardest guides because as much as kids love toys and electronics, but toys can be a one and done if it doesn’t hit their interest or it can be expensive. Its also a wide age range, so I tried to hit a variety of areas, interests and boy/girl/both.
I hope you’ll go check out these gift guides. If you have a unique gift giving situation and don’t have a clue what to get, or don’t see anything but would like my help, fill out the short questionnaire in the Custom Gift Guide and I will help with some ideas. I’ll be adding and editing these guides often so check them out whenever you need a fresh idea.
